Chonky is a single player roll-em-up exploration adventure game where players play as a cat named Chonky with the ability to grow larger by absorbing other animals. Explore the large map, meet new characters, discover new areas, and ROLL OVER EVERYTHING YOU SEE. GET BIG! GET CHONKY!
Chonky was a univeristy project, completed with a team of 5 students. The project managed to win silver medal in the Sintok International Games & Gamification (SIGG) award 2020.
Gameplay Programmer:
As the gameplay programmer for the team, I worked on developing the core gameplay systems, the character controller, abilities, boss AI, and on the main gameplay mechanic of the game (rolling up other objects and growing from it). Aside from that, I worked on the progression systems, such as quests, collectibles, and the in-game cutscenes.
UI Programmer
As the UI programmer I worked closely with our UI artist on bringing his designs into the game and tying them to their respective systems. The main UI systems include the world map viewer, the objectives panels, objective pop ups, the gameplay UI, and the dialogue system.
Technical Artist
As the technical artist, I worked on the VFX seen in the game, as well as on the shader that gave the game it's cell shaded look.
